After 42 years of faithful service to the Village of Stronghurst, Bob Carmean decided to celebrate his 69th birthday by retiring on it May 3rd. At the village board meeting on Monday evening Bob was presented a plaque and a $50 gift certificate for Sirloin Stockade from the village board.
Following the board meeting everyone enjoyed cake and punch with Bob, his wife and his family.
Todd Lange, representing the Stronghurst Booster Club, asked if it would be permissible for a "farmers market' to be held in Stronghurst on Wednesday evenings from 4-7 beginning in June. The board gave their permission.
Kevin Wiehardt of WIRC spoke to the board on applying for a grant to assist low to moderate income families with home upgrades. The homes would need to be within a certain targeted area. This upgrade would apply to homeowners only and they would need to reside in the home for 5 years after the work is done. The cost to the village would be $1200 to have Mr. Wiehardt apply for this 2 year grant. On a vote of 5-1 the board voted to proceed with the project.
Cory Fox was sworn in as a new village board member .
The flower bed that was to be placed around the village sign at the water plant is on hold until permission from the state can be obtained.
Angela Myers reminded everyone of the City Wide Clean-up Day on May 20th.
President Chockley directed Tony Griepentrog to check on prices for building a restroom at the village part and bring the information back to the board next month.
David Vancil reported that Tom Ford is resigning from the zoning board.
The board adjourned at 8:22 p.m. until Monday, June 6th at 7:00 p.m.
