The Southern High School chapter of the National Honor Society last Friday inducted five new members into the prestigious academic achievement society.
In a candlelight ceremony, the current members renewed their membershop vows and welcomed the new members into the society. In front of the student body of the school, members gave interpretations of the four cardinal membership principles: character, leadership, scholarship and service.
Membership in Southern High School's Confederate Chapter requires that members achieve and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5. The high school faculty members evaluate academically eligible candidates on the qualities of leadership, service, and character.
Membership in the National Honor Society is one of the highest awards that can come to a high school student.
The newly inducted members of Southern's chapter are shown seated behind the table; they are Danielle Waterman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rick Waterman; Alicia Yeakey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rod Yeakey; David Guile, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Guile; Jourdan Evans, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Evans; and Alicia Phillips, daughter of Ms. Melissa Phillips.
