The final action for the Southern School Board came on Monday evening when they voted the following resolution into effect.
Resolution
WHEREAS, the Southern Community Unit District #120 and the Union Community Unit District #115 formed a Committee of Ten to study a consolidation between the two district; and
WHEREAS, on November 5, 2005 the majority of the Southern Community Unit District #120 and the Union Community Unit District #115 voted in favor of a petition to consolidate the two school districts with the effective date of the new school district to be July 1, 2005; and
WHEREAS, on January 12, 2005 the organizational meeting of the new board was held of the new district to which the new district would be officially named the West Central Community District #235.
NOW, THEREFORE, LET IT BE SAID, that after 34 years of providing a quality program of education for the students of the Southern Community District and after sending forth the students of 33 graduating classes to be responsible and productive citizens the Southern Community Unit District #120 will cease on June 30, 2005,
WE, THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF THE SOUTHERN COMMUNITY UNIT DISTRICT #120 leave in the Custody of the West Central Community District #235 the real property, funds, equipment and records of the Southern Community Unit District #120; and
MOST OF ALL, we leave our faith and trust in the West Central Community Unit District #235 Board of Education, Administration, Teachers and Staff to provide the best of instruction, services and opportunities to the future children of the Southern and Union communities to assure that as adults wherever the graduates shall go, they will continue to serve their families and communities for a healthy and enduring society.
ADOPTED, this 27 day of June 2005.
Superintendent Tom Avery was presented with a gift certificate and a round of thanks for his help and guidance over the past year.
Principal Jeff Nichols reported students who have their name on a green recognition sign on the Jr. High School in Media may have them.
The board accepted with regret the resignation of H. Spetman.
