Jay Jones, owner of Jones Insurance Agency, left teaching in 1982 to become a Country Companies insurance agent. In 1985, he acquired the Howard Insurance Agency at 125 East Main Street in La Harpe.
The agency is an independent insurance company. A few of the companies they represent are Safeco, Pekin, Met Life, General Casualty, and Great American.
The types of insurance they represent are personal lines, commercial lines, life and health, and long term care.
Also, working in the office are long term employees, Cindy Anders, CISR, for twenty years and Cindy Grate for 14 years.
Their office hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, Thursday, from 8:00 a.m. - 12 noon, and 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 am. on Saturday.
Jay has lived in the area all of his life. He graduated from La Harpe High School and Illinois State in Normal. He taught school for 4 years before getting into the insurance business. He coached for 9 years during the Thunder era.
He and his wife, Cathy, have 3 sons, Jackson and Jesse, both in Chicago, and Jenson, a senior at Illinois Wesleyan in Normal. Cathy teaches second grade in La Harpe.
In his spare time Jay likes to walk, jog, yard work, and play golf!
