New Carman Postmaster

CARMAN: Larry Long of Blandinsville is taking the oath of office as U. S. Postmaster in Carman Friday afternoon as mother Maxine Long, holds the Bible. Pat Goffinet-Luna, Manager of Postal Operations in Peoria officiated.

Larry was anxious to get a Postmaster's job, he said. Larry worked at the post office in Blandinsville since 1986 under Postmaster Jim Reed and later- Mary Beth Farrenkopf. He said he enjoyed the good people of Blandinsville and hated leaving.

Since arriving at work in Carman in December, he's gotten acquainted with the good people of Carman: "They've made me feel welcome, and I'm sure glad to be here!"

Larry's family offered cake and punch. Along with his mother, were his sisters Janet Johnson, Judy Oliver and Jean Mershon of La Harpe, and sister-in-law Karen Ferguson of Roseville and other relatives postmasters and friends. Carman Post Office is open 8:30 to 12:30 and 1:00 to 3:45 M-F; Sat. 8:30-9:30. Virginia Anderson is Postmaster relief and works in Carman on Saturdays.
