La Harpe American Legion Auxiliary and American Legion Post #301 presented the La Harpe Memorial day Services at the city park. Arleen Gard welcomed everyone.
The American Legion presented the colors followed by the pledge of allegiance. Opening and closing prayers were given by American Legion Chaplain, Michael Blythe. The La Harpe Junior high band, directed by Stephanie Mencel, preformed "Star Spangled Banner and Armed Forces on Parade. Music specials were sung by Melissa Burt who sang "God Bless America Medley" and Jeannie Jones who sang "American Soldier."
Doug and Carol Palmer were recognized. They are the parents of Joshua Palmer, who died in Iraq last year. Brian Blythe, currently in active duty, and Cliff Evans, who is entering the service, were acknowledged. Also, all veterans and those who are now serving in the armed services were recognized.
Comments were made by Legion Commander Darrell Kraft and La Harpe Mayor Kenny Brown.
The American Legion veterans gave the traditional twenty-one gun salute and Lindsey Pollock and Stephanie Mencel played Taps with echo, at the close of the service.
