Letter to Editor

Dear Editor:

Many residents of our community do not realize Oak Lane Nursing and Rehabilitation Center has local residents who volunteer many hours each year at the facility.

We appreciate the many people who do volunteer. If you're not a volunteer, there is a need for additional people to help in this capacity.

You can volunteer as little as 2 hours a month or as many hours as you would like. Work is not difficult or hard and the people who volunteer find they receive much more than they give.

On May 18, 2005, Oak Lane Nursing and Rehabilitation Volunteers and Auxiliary were honored at a tea recognizing the many volunteer hours given by these generous people each year. The day was organized by Carole Dillon from the Oak Lane staff who as one of her responsibilities scheduling volunteers each day at Oak Lane.

Richard Clifton welcomed the group and shared information of interest to those attending. He called our attention to the fact that Oak Lane has just had their yearly visit from the Illinois Department of Public Health and this year the facility received a perfect evaluation with no deficiencies.

Entertainment for the day was Cookie Bannon, Music Therapist, from Peoria. Cookie shared many stories and music about many of her clients she has served throughout the year.

Her program was enjoyed by all in attendance. Following the business meeting and program, delicious refreshments and fellowship was enjoyed by all.

New officers for this organization for the next 2 years are as follows:

President: Lois Campbell

Vice president: Joan Gerling

Secretary: Elizabeth Rankin

Treasurer: Barb Malcolm

President Lois is currently making plans for the annual membership drive for members.

People in the community will also be given the opportunity to make individual donations to the organization to help with their projects of helping provide needed equipment for Oak Lane.

When you are contacted to join or make a contribution, please give serious consideration to this project of this very worthwhile organization.

Henderson County is fortunate to have this facility to help care for our elderly loved ones. We all should support Oak Lane in any way in which we can so we can continue giving the excellent care our residents deserve.

Past President
