7th Annual Fred Gibb Memorial Car Show

La Harpe Mayor Kenny Brown, co-founder of the 7th Annual Fred Gibb Memorial Car Show, has planned an even bigger event for La Harpe and car enthusiasts than last year.

The event will begin on Saturday, August 6th, and Brown reports thirty-six young people, girls and guys, will be arriving at the La Harpe Park District at 7:00 a.m. to help with this popular car show that is bringing car enthusiasts from across the United States.

Festivities will kick off at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 5th during "Cruise Night" in both Macomb (W.I.U.) and in Monmouth around the square and downtown.

In La Harpe Saturday morning, specialty cars will be under five tents rather than four as last year and the number of cars expected at this writing is 520.

Classes have increased to 41 with plaques awarded at a minimum of three places.

The flag will be raised, Pastor Bruce Goettsche of the Union Church of La Harpe will give the invocation, and Melissa Burt will sing a medley of patriotic songs.

Several special cars will be on display, to include:

Gibb cars, NASCAR's Dale Earnhardt Jr's stock car, and three very rare 1965 Z16 Chevelles. Only 200 of these Chevelles were ever manufactured.

The 2005 T-shirt and logo showcases three Super Sports: Evelyn Parrish's Impala, Dennis Combie's Chevelle, and Annie Hartwig's Nova.

As City Father, Mayor Brown invites all to the car show to enjoy the day, to be held rain or shine. Quincy's Channel 7 will be covering Friday's cruise in Macomb and Saturdays will be WCAZ radio out of Carthage.

The car show will wrap up by taking a Fred Gibb Memorial cruise back to Macomb around their square on Saturday night to finalize the event. The cruise is scheduled until 10 p.m.

Brown invites everyone to come to the free event that has grown from 19 classes to 41 and it is "Free Admission!" The La Harpe Fire Dept. will be putting on a demo with the Jaws Of Life and taking donations for equipment. 440 plaques will be given away with the minimum of 3 places per event.

Organizers are working hard and planning another fun "car feast" in La Harpe,
