La Harpe Summerfest Around The Corner

The 2005 La Harpe Summerfest will kickoff on Wednesday, August 10. The schedule of events includes: 4 p.m. BBQ Beef supper served by the American Legion.

At 7:15 p.m. the Colors will be presented, followed by local gospel samplings of One Accord. At 9:30 p.m. Retiring of Colors.

On Thursday, August 11, a Fried Fish Supper will be served by the La Harpe Volunteer Fire Department starting at 4:30 p.m.

The proceeds will go towards extrication equipment. The 28th Annual Lions Club Frog Jumping Contest will start at 6:30 p.m.

At 7:15 p.m. Colors presented, followed by Illusions of Elvis by Junior Tally at 7:30 p.m. Retiring of Colors at 9:30 p.m.

Friday, August 12, the First State Customer Appreciation Picnic will begin at 11:00 a.m. and continue until 1:00 p.m. For dinner, a Chicken Supper will be provided by La Harpe Masonic Lodge beginning at 4:30 p.m. The 29th Annual Lions Club Turtle Races will begin at 6:30 p.m. Colors presented at 7:15 p.m. followed by Voices of Brian/Stylings of Rod Stewart, and at 9:30 p.m., the Retiring of Colors.

On Saturday morning, August 13, the Methodist Church Breakfast will be served in the church fellowship hall from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. One-Block Kid's Race will begin at 8:00 a.m. for children 9 and under. At 8:30 a.m. the WCAZ Kid's Games will be held in the city park for kids under the age of 10.

From 9:00 a.m. to noon there will be a community bake sale in the city park shelter house. All are welcome to donate items.

From 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tour of Homes and Gardens will be underway. For information, contact Maxine at 217-659-7838. Tickets will be sold at each home. Both the bake sale and the tour of homes proceeds benefit Tammy Johnson, sponsored by Durham, Terre Haute, and La Harpe Methodist Churches.

The parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. as well as the butterfly pork chop sandwiches and hot dogs served by the Golden Rule Club. At 11:30 a.m. more WCAZ Kids Games will take place.

The La Harpe Garden Tractor Pull will start at 1:00 p.m. followed by a Cemetery Walk at historic La Harpe Cemetery, by the Historical and Genealogical Society at 2:00 p.m until 4:00 p.m.

Dinner will be the 29th Annual Lions Club Pork Chop BBQ served at 4:30 p.m. The La Harpe FFA Labor Auction will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Colors will be presented at 7:15 p.m. followed by the music of Sequoia Drive, sponsored by Little Brothers, Inc. The night will end with the Retiring of Colors at 9:30 p.m.

At 4:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, tacos will be served by The American Legion Auxiliary and soda only, on Wednesday. All programs will be held in the La Harpe Community Club House in case of inclement weather.

All food will be served in the air conditioned Masonic Lodge on the east side of the park.

A hospitality tent will also be provided, selling replicas of various city buildings by the La Harpe Historical and Genealogy Society and a 50/50 drawing will be held nightly.

Flea markets will be held each night and all day on Saturday as well. There will be a free blood pressure check, courtesy of La Harpe Ambulance, Friday through Saturday 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. For further information, call: 217-659-7776.
