Pool Schedule Needs Tweaked
Dear Editor,
I'm writing in regards to the swimming pool.
We have been blessed for many years to have a pool in such a small town but the way it is being ran this summer it wouldn't surprise me if it doesn't close due to never having it stay open for its scheduled hours.
Not everyone can get down there right at 1:00 p.m. to get 10 people there to open it.
And what about those people who work and would like to come in to swim late afternoon. By that time they are usually closed.
We have paid our passes and our daily admission to be able to come during the scheduled hours to swim.
I don't see us getting reimbursed for the times they close early or are not open.
And if they do stay open until 6:00 p.m. the management is telling them they need to get out before they get locked in.
The people should have enough time to be able to shower and change if they want before they go locking the doors.
A lot of the times the lifeguards and workers have it locked down and long gone before all the kids are even picked up or left the grounds.
I remember when I was little the pool was open from noon to 8:00 p.m. and pool parties from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. There were 2 adult swimming sessions a day. Not anymore. We're lucky if we can even swim until 6:00 p.m.
Sincerely

Wants Adult Supervision At The Pool
Dear Editor,
To Whom It May Concern:
When the pool opened in La Harpe it was a blessing to this community. It was a great place to go to spend time with your kids.
My husband and I bought family passes and we took our daughter every day we could. My daughter and I have done the same thing with my granddaughter.
We enjoy it very much except this year it has gotten out of control! We have kids running the pool; we need adult supervision!
Today the language is very bad at times, the kids push and pull each other into the water. They even pushed the life guard one afternoon.
The kids climb onto the life guard chairs and sit, once they even blew the whistle.
Yet all you hear from the life guard is "you do that one more time".
But nothing is ever done. Before this year the kids had to take a swimming test across the 12 foot before going off the boards. Now they get by jumping off with arm floats!
Our pool is getting in bad shape maintenance wise. They need to paint, repair and replace. I hate to see the pool get so bad the community loses it.
Please get control before it's too late.

Want Pool Rules Enforced
Dear Editor,
I am writing this letter to bring awareness to the conduct at the La Harpe Pool.
I sat there at the pool one afternoon and within a 20 minute time frame at least 10 of the 15 "Posted Rules" were broken and nothing said. I've seen kids running, yelling, swearing, and pretty much anything else they want to with no repercussions.
When I was younger and even up to last year, if any of the above was done, you at least sat out for 10-15 minutes. Something else is that the lifeguards say nothing and half the time don't even look as if they are interested in what is going on around them. In my opinion there needs to be some adult supervision present. But I will give it to the concession stand, there is always at least 4 or 5 people sitting around and visiting there.
It looks as if the pool could use a good cleaning up too.
Thank you.

Veterans Names Needed
Dear Editor,
The names of a number of World War II veterans from Henderson and Hancock Counties are already part of the World War II Memorial Registry at the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.
But there are many more names that need to be added to this memorial. By going to the World War II Memorial web site at www.wwiimemorial.com
The process is simple. Serial numbers, enlistment or discharge dates, branch of service information are NOT necessary. The contributor can include personal information about the veteran's activity during the war. (This process can also be done in writing and mailed in.)
After the registration is verified by the World War II Memorial center, the contributor will be contacted and given the opportunity to add photographs of the veteran.
This registry can be searched by name, hometown, or state. There is absolutely no charge to register a veteran. Sections for orphaned children of veterans and "Civilians on the Home Front" have been recently added.
The sixtieth anniversary of VJ Day (August 14) is rapidly approaching. VJ Day is considered the traditional end of World War II. Adding more names of area veterans to the World War II Memorial Registry would be a wonderful way to acknowledge this anniversary and to recognize and thank our area's members of The Greatest Generation.
Sincerely,
