Remember yelling at your children "get out of the mud?"
Well, there was a lot of yelling on Wednesday night, but not about getting out of the mud, as participants from high school age to 63, played "Mud Volleyball" at the Henderson County Fair.
Twenty three teams participated in a total of 45 games with the "The Dirty 1/2 Dozen" coming out winners and was handed a huge trophy and $250.00, enough to wash or replace their mud soaked clothes. The team was led by Garrett Lenz.
Second place winners were "Off In The Mud", led by Karl Gullberg, and winning a trophy plus $100.
Third place went to Nick Burg's "Mud Studs" who received a trophy and $40.
Teams consisted of 6 to 15 members each. The rules state there must be 3 females on the court at all times.
Kris and Diana Beals, Jennifer Ewing, Mel Roth, Sara Ford and Jody Burg were referees for the evening. Lee Brokaw and Kyle Keever were the MCs.
It's still fun to play in the mud as Bob Gillis, 63, of Burlington, IA, will attest. This was his second year to participate and he told "The Antiquity" who sponsored the event, to sign him up for next year.
