Moment In History

Jedediah E. Barnes was born in Rensselaer County, New York in 1829.

He was educated in the common school finishing it in East Hampton, Mass. From 1846-1853 he taught school in New Jersey.

He left for the West arriving in Henderson County where for the next 12 years he devoted his time to teaching.

In 1858 he was elected county superintendent of schools. In 1865 he moved to Kirkwood, Warren County, where he engaged in the nursery business.

He married Miss Elizabeth A. Ewing in 1856 and they had two children.
