Letters to Editor

Dear Editor,

In response to the Lionberger letter last week, we want to say we appreciate Bob writing.

We have been very concerned about the out of town buying for a long time.

Alberta and I and others fully appreciate you speaking out on the subject.

Dear Editor,

There are 750 USDA Commodities food pantries in the state of Illinois.

In 2004, 20 USDA Commodities food pantries shut down because of the 70% cut back in USDA Commodities food.

This hurts the farmer because the United States Federal Government isn't buying as much food from them.

In the next two years, the United States Federal Government might try to phase out the USDA Commodities program. This would be a huge mistake. For seventy years this program has helped farmersby providing food to help low income families and many senior citizens on fixed incomes.

In 2005, if the 70% cut back stays in place for the USDA Commodities food program, there could be 100 more USDA Commodities food pantries shutting down in the state of Illinois. This will put a strain on the other pantries feeding the hungry people in the state of Illinois.

The USDA Commodities program is in the battle of it's life to keep from going out of business!

Many USDA Commodities food pantries will suffer if the USDA Commodities program ceases to exist in the state of Illinois.
