A La Harpe woman was arrested and charged with theft from her employer, First State Bank of Western Illinois in La Harpe. Janice E. Lord, 38, who worked as a bookkeeper, was charged Tuesday, January 4, 2005 in Hancock County Circuit Court in Carthage with one count of theft over $300. She was released on $10,000 bond.
Authorities did not disclose how much money was reportedly stolen or when, but according to Bank President Ron Peterson, an investigation is being done through the Hancock County Sheriff's department. Peterson declined to comment about the case or the amount taken but said, "There are no accounts that are affected" by the theft. "If ever there would be a loss in a customer's account," he said, "all funds would be fully covered by insurance."
