Moment in History

Charles Haffner, cabinet maker and dealer in furniture, was born in Ulm, Germany in 1826.

His early life until the age of 14 years was spent in school.

He was then sent to learn the trade of cabinet making, which he completed in three years and for four years following he worked at the trade as journeyman.

In October 1851 he left for America in the sailing ship, Saint Dennis.

He reached New York and immediately moved West arriving in Oquawka in 1852 where he engaged in the manufacture and sale of furniture.

In 1854 he married Miss Mary Goempler, a native of Germany, by whom he had nine children.
