Meet your neighbor Nancy Breiner, a long time resident of the La Harpe area. She was born in Myer, in September 1905, the daughter of David (Bill) and Elizabeth Moore. She is the oldest of 6 children, the only one still living. Her elementary education was spent in country schools. When she met her future husband, Lloyd Breiner, she was working in Stronghurst at the same place he was working. They were married September 30, 1924. They spent 10 years near Fountain Green where they rented their first farm. Then they lived in Squirrel Ridge near Blandinsville before moving into town in La Harpe in 1969. Lloyd built their house and they lived there until his death in 1973. Nancy still lives there with her daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Howard Kerfoot. They were the parents of 13 girls and 1 boy. Nancy's main occupation was being a homemaker. She did all the sewing for her family and was an excellent cook. After Lloyd's death, she worked at the Senior Citizens Center for a time. She enjoyed traveling and took a number of bus tours they offered. Making quilt tops, quilting and crocheting have occupied much of her time in later years. She also loves flowers. |
