My Sister's Place
My Sister's Place has been in La Harpe since 1977. Deloris Woodside and her sister, Pattsy Powelson, purchased the business from Glenn Poulter, their former employer. Poulter's Flower shop was opened in 1966 on the corner of Main Street and Center Street where Quivey's Barber shop used to be.
Deloris and Pattsy expanded the business to include more than just flowers. They changed the name at that time to My Sister's Place. At one time they had shops in Blandinsville and Stronghurst.
My Sister's Place is primarily a florist, with fresh and silk flowers. They also have greeting cards, candles, toys, and balloons. Their services include funerals, weddings, holidays, birthdays, and anniversaries, school dances, and any special occasion. They also have tuxedo rental.
Deloris lost her sister last July to cancer and said it is not the same without her. They both enjoyed working with the public the 27 years the shop has been here. The community has been good to them and has always supported them.
Deloris's nieces, Nanette Chapman and Gayle Vincent, work at the shop also. Deloris and her husband, Jim, live in La Harpe and have five children. My Sister's Place is opened Monday-Saturday.
For 28 years, Deloris Woodside has enjoyed running My Sister's Place.
