Meet Your Neighbor

By Eleanor Sears, Quill Staff

Meet your neighbor Genevieve Colvin, born in Waverly. Her parents were Roy and Mae Crum. Genevieve had 4 brothers, only one is still living. She began her school years in a country school, but attended high school at Waverly where she graduated.

She and Kenneth Colvin were married in 1934 in Pittsfield. They moved to La Harpe in 1953 when he came to La Harpe to work for the railroad.

Genevieve worked at several different jobs the first being at the Jacksonville State Hospital and worked there about 8 years before moving to La Harpe, then she worked at the Lomax Canning Factory for several seasons. For 14 years she worked as a nurses aide at La Harpe Hospital retiring in 1976. After retirement she and Kenneth enjoyed traveling until his death in 1994.

For many years Genevieve made quilts, probably 25 or 30 which she enjoyed giving to relatives. She also enjoys doing jigsaw puzzles, and watching TV. She is a member of the Senior Citizens and the Happy Helpers Club.
