Meet Your Teacher, Ruth Shimmin, Kindergarten teacher at Southern Elementary in Stronghurst. She has 20 students in her class.
Mrs. Shimmin graduated from Warren High School and continued her education at Monmouth College.
She has been teaching for 23 years. She enjoys being with the Kindergartners because she can see how the students progress in reading and writing skills throughout the year.
She and her husband Steve live in rural Monmouth and they have two children, Stephenie and Hank. They also have two grandchildren, Bailey and Jennifer.
Mrs. Shimmin enjoys swimming and being involved at the Fairview United Methodist Church.
