Union Church Brings Joy To Children Hospitalized At Christmas

The youth groups of the Union Church of LaHarpe have been doing what they call "The Iowa City Project" for about 3 years. The project is spearheaded by Dave Clover, full-time church office manager. Four to five trips are made a year to the Iowa City Children's Hospital where young people of the church deliver gift-bags to the patients and take part in that day's activities.

During the year, the youth groups have fundraisers to help support this project with many donations received from the congregation and the community.

The Christmas trip is always the highlight of their project, according to Dave Clover, who helps in the delivery of from 100-200 Christmas presents to the children.

"The smiles from the children and the encouraging words from their parents always seem to affect the youth in a very positive manner," Clover said.

"We always take for granted what God has graciously given to us and after seeing all that these families are going through you can't help but understand that it really is better to give than to receive. I encourage everyone to support a project of their choice this Christmas season," Dave said.

Dave is the assistant of Pastor Bruce Goettsche, Pastor at the Union Church of La Harpe.
