Years Of Service Add Up

by Dessa Rodeffer, Publisher/Owner

The hot soup hit the spot on a cold blustery December evening at the American Legion last week. One hundred thirty patriots came to donate and say thanks to our local veterans, and to enjoy the social time together.

The sandwiches and pie were delicious as well, but the most important thing was the outstanding service.

First of all, the Legion Auxiliary was busy in the back room cutting pies, making sandwiches and the veterans were busy serving them along with oyster, chili and potato soup.

Three boy scouts were busy every second, helping with trays, drinks, clearing tables and it obviously showed that they had done this many times in the past.

The three have a total of 21 years of service as a scout. Their scout leader Lloyd Hubler is a veteran from the Vietnam era and has served 4 years in the Air Force.

The American Legion supports the boy scouts, giving them a meeting place in the upstairs of the Stronghurst Post Office. The scouts give back in service and currently are helping with needed remodeling in the upstairs.

At the Legion supper were more veterans who served our country.

Ralph Tatge, 2 years in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Ron VanBlair, 2 years in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era.

David Leath, 3 years in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Cold War.

Dale Anderson, 2 years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Art Kane, 2 years in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era.

Gilbert Linder, 2 years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Bill Brokaw, 2 years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Gary Hicks, 4 years in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era.

Delbert Rankin, 2 years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

John Brokaw, 4 years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

Jack Kinslow, 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, retired, during Vietnam.

Todd Lange, 15 years in the U.S. Marines, during the War on Iraq.

The combined service is 64 years for 13 U.S. veterans. As we support the legion activities we continue to say "Thanks for your service."

Veteran and scout leader Lloyd Hubler works along side Jordan Brueck, 8th yr., Logan Brueck, 7th yr., and Zachary Jacobs, 6th yr. at an American Legion fund raiser. The boys have a total of 21 years in scouting.
