Meet your neighbor Chris Barber Deputy Sheriff in Henderson County. Chris is a "92 graduate of Southern High School and a "94 graduate of Southeastern Community College, West Burlington, Iowa, with an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice.
Chris married his high school sweetheart Amy Thomas in March of "95. They have two sons, Matthew, 8 and Nicholas, 5, and live in Stronghurst.
For two years, Chris was a correctional officer at the Des Moines County Jail in Burlington, Iowa. He was hired by the late county sheriff "Pete" Thompson as a deputy in "97, now in his 8th year. He just concluded a 3-1/2 year stretch with the West Central Illinois Drug Task Force.
After high school, Chris earned his 2nd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He learned ground fighting techniques from attending a Defensive Tactic Instructor School" when working as a correctional officer. He has studied HapKiDo and Ju-jitsu learning defensive moves using other people's energy. Chris enjoys spending time with his family and summer vacations.
