La Harpe School Board Meeting Date Changes; Coaches Approved

The La Harpe School Board voted to change the regular board meeting date from the 2nd Monday to the 3rd Tuesday of each month. The September meeting will be September 20th in the library at 7:00 p.m.

The board approved the action at their regular board meeting Tuesday night, August 16, in the La Harpe school district library.

The board also approved the appointment of Nancy Butler as a board member to complete the term of Larry Caston who moved out of the district. The board made the following personnel decisions.

They approved the employment of Susan Holtsclaw as high school business teacher, Dru Jefferson as assistant high school girls basketball coach, Tyler Walker, Ryan Duffie, and Nathan Bradley as assistant football coaches, Jason Finch as 7/8 grade girls basketball coach, Aaron Baker as a two hour high school custodian, and Amber Eaves and Valerie Van Fleet as substitute teacher helpers.

Danielle Horton was approved as volunteer 7/8 grade girls basketball coach, and David Anderson as volunteer 5/6 grade boys basketball coach. The board accepted with regret the resignation from Jerry Schmitz as high school business teacher and from Larry Caston as a board member.

In other business, the board approved the preliminary FYO6 budget, approved a request from Robin Thompson to use the playground for soccer practice, and approved requests for reimbursement for college courses by Ann Logan, Laurena Hunter, Cindy Burns, and Lila McKeown.

Ricky Johnson read the Ag Report prepared by Paul Mealiff. Lacey Pence and Megan Poulter attended the Illinois State FFA Leadership Camp at Monticello from July 27-30. The third summer FFA meeting was held on August 4. Twenty members and guests swam in the La Harpe pool and then enjoyed pizza and pop at the Ag room. Part of the proceeds from the Labor Auction will be donated to the La Harpe Fire Department.

Ag and FFA students will attend the Farm Progress Show on August 30. Some of the FFA members will again be helping direct traffic on September 4 at the Nauvoo Grape Festival Parade as a community service activity.

The annual plot day will be held on Saturday, September 13, with food being served from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend and view different varieties of corn and soybeans.

School board members in attendance were Barbara Cox, Dan Horton, Mark Irish, Cindy Wear, R.D. Trout, and Ricky Johnson. Also present were Jo Campbell, Lila McKeown, Pat Deitrich, Lisa Trout, John Quigle, and Jeff and Tracy McDowell.
