Meet Your Neighbor

by Melanie Sharpe-Lessen, Quill Reporter

Meet Your Neighbor-David and Kathryn VanFleet. They are the friendly faces you will see when you stop at the La Harpe City Park and purchase their beautiful produce.

David and Kathryn have been selling produce at the park for about seven years. Their home is on the county line, where they grow their tomatoes, sweet corn, green beans, and potatoes, to name a few. They have lived there for 53 years.

Currently they are finished selling sweet corn and green beans because of the drought, but they still have plenty of tomatoes and potatoes.

Kathryn said that even though her husband has two tillers, he still gets out and works the garden all by hand, not a small feat for anyone, but David prefers it that way even though he will be 85 on his next birthday.

David states he has to get around with his cane but once he starts working in his garden he forgets about being stiff and sore.

Keep an eye out for these two, they are almost done selling for the season, but you may still be able to catch them for a few more days.
