La Harpe Fire Department Extrication Demonstration

Scheduled for 2005 Fred Gibb Memorial Car Show

by: Melanie Sharpe-Lessen - Quill Reporter

Jerry Brown, a La Harpe volunteer fireman, states that an Extrication Demonstration is scheduled for this year's car show. The demonstration is to show the people of La Harpe how extrication equipment works.

For the past two and a half years, the La Harpe Fire Department has been raising money for this equipment. Extrication equipment is the devices used to free people trapped in automobiles.

This is especially important if the victim is also injured and needs immediate medical assistance. Currently in La Harpe, freeing a car crash victim is a longer process than it should be.

If you get into a car accident in La Harpe and need to be freed from your vehicle, you may have to wait up to 30 minutes to receive assistance, because the equipment has to come from another town.

The Fire Department has half of the money needed to purchase this equipment, but they still need about $10,000 more.

They hope the demonstration of this lifesaving equipment at the car show will make people understand the importance of having it available in the La Harpe Community.

Please donate at the car show, scheduled for Saturday, August 6. Or you can stop by the First State Bank of La Harpe and ask to donate to the La Harpe Fire Department Extrication Fund or send a check for donation to: La Harpe Fire Department, PO Box 318, La Harpe, IL 61450.

The extrication equipment that will be used at the car show is loaned from Alexis, in hopes of making the community understand what it is and the need for it here in La Harpe.
