Meet Your Neighbor

By David Grimes, for the Quill

Kayla Bennet is a 16-year-old high school junior who moved to rural Rozetta from San Diego, CA, a year ago.

Kayla has eight brothers and sisters, Krystal, Lyndsay, Joshua, Grace, Jamie, Hannah, Daniel and Mary, and is home schooled by her mom, Melissa.

Her dad is pastor at Rozetta Baptist Church, which has a congregation of around 120 souls.

Kayla works in food preparation and as a server at A Little Cup of Heaven on South Main Street in Monmouth, a business she describes as not so much of a coffee house but a bistro.

She belongs to a small group Bible study group called The Break Down and enjoys swimming and abstract painting in her spare time.

Kayla is an ardent pro life advocate. Her favorite scripture is Jeremiah 1:5, "Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations."

Favorite books she has read include To Kill a Mockingbird, Rumblefish and Number the Stars.

A recent movie she has enjoyed the most is "Batman Begins."

"It is so good," she says.

After high school Kayla wants to attend cosmetology school.
