The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.
Today with e-mail, instant messaging, etc. it is hard to imagine how the mail traveled in early times in this county.
The first route in Olena Township extended from Monmouth to Appanoose.
The first post office in that township opened in the house of Wm Cowden, but after the laying out
of the town of Olena, Robert Kendall became the postmaster removing it to his store.
The office changed hands as stores changed owners and in 1882 Ira Putney, Jr. was the post master.
