La Harpe principal resigns

La Harpe elementary principal Charlotte Davis resigned her post earlier this month to take a superintendent post in a new town.

Her new position at the South Fork School District near Taylorville, Ill., carries a one-year contract and an annual salary of $84,000, including benefits.

The Galesburg., Ill., native received her bachelor's degree in education from Illinois State University in 1969, and later her master's and education specialist degrees from Western Illinois University in Macomb.

Davis' career at La Harpe schools began 18 years ago when she was hired as a Title I teacher. She also taught high school Spanish for a time before making the move to elementary principal.

Prior to coming to Hancock County, Davis also taught in the Nauvoo-Colusa and Galesburg school districts.

La Harpe's pre-K through eighth-grade enrollment is 330. South Fork School district has a student population of about 500.

Davis will begin her new contract at South Fork July 1.
