La Harpe Elementary Teacher, Cindy Jones, was recently chosen "Teacher of the Year 2005' by her peers during a banquet at Catfish Bend Casino in Burlington, Iowa.
Cindy teaches fifth grade social studies, language arts, reading and drama. She loves to teach reading because it gives her an opportunity to talk about a lot of subjects, people, and experiences.
Cindy was picked by a panel of judges, including civilians and past principals. Cindy says she appreciates the students who wrote letters nominating her. as Teacher of the Year.
She received a gift of $1000 for herself as well as a $500 check to buy anything she needs for her classroom. She also received a red marble apple with "Teacher of the Year 2005' stamped on it.
Cindy feels it was quite an honor to receive this award and the La Harpe community is very proud of her. She also said,
"I couldn't do anything that I accomplish without my co-teacher, Kathy Kendall."
