Meet your neighbor, Pastor George Knox of Stronghurst.
George graduated from Yates City High School and has become a pastor through a course of study school for the United Methodist Church.
He has been serving as pastor for the Stronghurst and Carman Methodist churches since 1999.
Prior to this full time appointment, he served the United Methodist Church in Low Point, 25 miles northeast of Peoria. He finished his schooling in Kansas City at the St. Paul School of Theology.
Pastor Knox is a "second career' pastor, beginning his pastoral ministry in 1991.
Beforehand, he worked in Galesburg at OMC, as a farmhand, a carpenter, at a shelter work center and sold life insurance for Met Life.
He and his wife, Linda, have one daughter, Christina who is expecting her third child any day now! She and her family live in Galesburg.
Pastor Knox and his wife enjoy being here in Henderson County.
The Stronghurst United Methodist Church offers three different styles of worship. On certain Sundays the congregation enjoys either the traditional service or a blended service.
On Wednesdays, the church in Stronghurst offers an after school program, WASP (Wednesday After School Program).
The program begins at 3:30 p.m. and at 5:00 p.m. there is a dinner served for the children and adults.
After dinner, a contemporary service begins. The program is open to everyone in the community and is a wonderful way for children and adults to fellowship.
Linda and George enjoy fishing and boating together. Their favorite lake is Mark Twain in Missouri.
Sunday morning service in Stronghurst starts at 10:30 a.m. with Sunday School starting at 9:00 a.m.
In Carman, service starts at 9:00 a.m. with Sunday School beginning at 10:00 a.m.
