Meet Your Neighbor-Larry Cortelyou, born in La Harpe. Larry attended Bradshaw country school for 7 years, then continued his education at La Harpe, graduating from La Harpe High School. He attended Junior College at Southeastern in Burlington, Iowa and graduated from the Technical program there. After graduating he owned and operated a professional window cleaning business in Peoria. In 1970, he and his wife Terri were married and moved back to La Harpe in 1974. Larry began farming then, and continued working in his window cleaning business as well. Larry and Terri have a son, Shawn. Shawn and his wife Beth have 3 daughters, Megan, Emma, and Heather. They also live in La Harpe. Larry still farms and manages the Western Area Purchasing Coop (WAPC) in La Harpe. Larry enjoys working with the Little League program in our city. He has been involved with it for 26 years and has seen it grow from 2 teams when he started to 24 teams now. Over 240 kids (from age 3 through 18) participated in the program this past summer. The La Harpe Lions Club act as the sponsors and pays for the insurance required for the league, and the La Harpe Park Board has helped with the cost of diamonds and built the nice concession stand now at the ball park. |
