On Monday evening Southern school board members rescinded last month's vote for a $3000 stipend to Sharri Richard and Judy Duncan due to negotiations it was reported.
After closed meeting discussions the change was approved and, a motion was then passed by the board which approved a $4500 stipend to both administrative assistants, Richard and Duncan.
In an audit report it was learned enrollment at Southern has dropped from 465 in the year 2000 to 429 in 2004 (36 students).
The board approved purchasing a refrigerator for $2,665 and a stove for $3,015 for the lunch room. It was reported that the old refrigerator will be used to store sack lunches that children bring.
A student teacher, Melissa Johnson, will be helping at the 1st grade level for approximately 8 weeks next semester, pending Mrs. Ragar's approval.
The high school S-U cheerleaders requested permission to do a fund raiser by working at Diamond Dave's as waitresses, hostesses and dish washers. They would be given 10% of the evening sales and keep all tips.
Due to the lack of a motion, the request was denied.
There will be three small plays given by the Drama Club on November 11th and 12th at Media.
The board accepted a $5,000 donation from the FFA Alumni for support of the FFA program.
In a library review it was reported approximately 1,200 books were checked out in the junior high and in the high school approximately 3,980 books during the year. In the elementary library 15,004 books were checked out for 1st through fourth grades.
Principal Jeff Nichols reported Amanda Schneider and Phillip Kline were winners in the local Geography Bee held on October 21st.
The board entered closed session at 7:50 p.m.

Present were: Board members-Jon Corzatt, Brad Arnold, Rod Fox, Melissa Livermore, Brendan Schaley and Doug Brooks (7:10); Superintendent Tom Avery; Principals Jeff Nichols and Dale Buss; Secretary Sharri Richard. Board member Dan Bowman was absent.
The next board meeting will be held on Monday, November 22, 2004 at 7:00 p.m.
