The actual year in which Terre Haute Township was settled is uncertain, but Mr. Steven Genung came with his family from near Terre Haute, Indiana, in 1842.
Their former location was used to name the new precinct.
Most memorable in the early years was the Mormon War in which rape, theft and murder spread fear and discontent throughout the sparsely settled country.
