The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.
by Judy Swanson, The Quill Staff
La Harpe Firemen were at the La Harpe School Thursday to demonstrate and explain about fire safety. The children were able to go into the smoke house and experience first hand what happens when a fire breaks out. Pre-K through 5th grade participated.
Smoke alarms provide early warning when a fire occurs, yet they are useless if not operating correctly.
Most home fire deaths and injuries can be prevented through early warning and quick response. Install smoke alarms outside sleeping areas and on every level of the home. near the kitchen and in the basement. When you hear the sound of your smoke alarm, you should be prepared. Develop and practice a fire escape plan, establish at least two exits from each room and arrange to meet at a place away from the home.
Knowing what to do when the smoke alarm sounds will help you and your family to escape if there is a fire.
Firemen who conducted the program were: Wes Carpenter, Scott Dobson, Daniel Carpenter, Larry Caston, Bill Burt and Chad Burt.
