Scholastic Leaders of La Harpe High School

Co-Valedictorians: Anna Ziegler and Shayla Painter

Salutatorian: Mary Ann McKoon

Anna Ziegler is the daughter of Annetta and Rowen Ziegler and the granddaughter of Jane and Lowell Mohr and Anita Ziegler and the late Lloyd Ziegler.

Anna will graduate with a grade point average of 4.1865, and has been very involved in school activities throughout her high school career.

Anna has been a 4-year member of FFA where she was the Chapter Sentinel her sophomore year, the Chapter Reporter her junior and senior year, and Section XI Reporter her junior and senior year. She has acquired her state FFA degree, and been active in state FFA chorus, state FFA press corps, and was the 2003-2004 chapter FFA queen. This coming year Anna will serve as the Section XI FFA president.

Anna has been a football and basketball cheerleader all four years, serving as junior varsity captain her sophomore year and varsity captain her senior year and was named as a UCA All-Star Cheerleader her sophomore year.

Anna was a four year member of the track team, speech team, drama club, scholastic bowl team, chorus, and a library assistant. She has been a part of band and choir all four years, jazz band and Spanish club for two years, swing choir one year, and was on the student council leadership team her junior year.

She has been a member of the National Honor Society and the WYSE team three years and was named an Illinois State Scholar.

In the community, Anna has been a member of the Terre Haute Super Stars 4-H Club serving as treasurer, secretary, and president. She is a member of Terre Haute United Methodist Church and is active in the Union Church youth group. She was also chosen to go on the Youth to Washington trip in 2003.

Anna has received the Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau Scholarship, the Cargill Community Scholarship, the La Harpe FFA Chapter Dannen Latherow Scholarship, the C. Dannen Latherow scholarship, the Western Illinois University Foundation four-year Scholarship, the B.I. and Flora Mueller Scholarship and the Merit Recognition Scholarship.

Anna plans to attend Western Illinois University in the fall while serving as section XI FFA president, then transfer to the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and major in Agricultural Communications.

Shayla Bryann Painter is the daughter of Diane and Steve Painter and the granddaughter of Roy Painter, and Clara Jean and Jerald Boyd.

Shayla will graduate with a grade point average of 4.1676, and has been very involved in school activities throughout her high school career.

Shayla was a member of the chorus, serving as a piano accompanist, all four years; a four-year member of jazz band, pep band, and marching band, being named to the 2002 WIU Honor band.

Shayla was chosen as a class representative on the sweetheart royalty, 3rd attendant on the homecoming royalty, and 1st attendant on the prom royalty. She has been a member of National Honor Society and WYSE team three years, and this past winter, was one of the inaugural members of the Cyclone Dance Team.

Shayla has served as a secretary for her class all four years, and was voted Most Musical by her classmates. She is a member of the Society for Academic Achievement, was a 2003 Youth to Springfield Tour Delegate, and a youth to Washington Finalist.

In the community, Shayla is an active member of the Terre Haute United Methodist Church, where she serves as church secretary and Bible School assistant.

Shayla has been named an Illinois State Scholar, and has received the John Phillips Sousa award, the Minnie White Scholarship, the First State Bank of Western Illinois Scholarship, the Leaon and Marion Lamet 4-year Memorial Scholarship, the C. Dannen Latherow Scholarship, and the Merit Recognition Scholarship.

Shayla plans to attend Western Illinois University and major in business.

Mary Ann McKoon is the daughter of Janet and Jim McKoon and the granddaughter of C.W. Morrison and the late Georgia Morrison; and Mary McKoon and the late Ed McKoon.

Mary Ann will graduate with a grade point average of 4.02 and has been involved in many activities throughout her high school years.

She was a four-year member of the volleyball team, serving as captain her senior year, and being selected second team all conference.

She was selected as the second attendant for the Homecoming Court, and chosen Prom Queen this past spring.

She participated in band for two years and chorus one year. Mary Ann served as vice president of her class all four years and scholastic bowl and WYSE team two years.

She has been named an Illinois State Scholar and was voted Who's Who Best Personality by her classmates.

Mary Ann has received the C. Dannen Latherow Scholarship, the SIU Edwardsville Provost Scholarship, and the SIU Edwardsville Campus Residence Honors Scholarship.

After graduation, Mary Ann plans to attend SIU at Edwardsville and major in business.
