Meet Your Neighbor

By Eleanor Sears, Quill Staff

Meet your neighbor, Betty Link. Betty was born in La Harpe, the youngest of ten children. She has one sister, Ethel Kraft and one brother, Lewis Hobby, living. Their parents were William and Nora Hobby.

She has lived all her life in La Harpe and attended the La Harpe schools. After graduation she went to Burlington Beauty School and then owned her own shop in her home for about five years. In later years, she worked at La Harpe Hospital as a Nurse's Aide for 13 years, then worked for the Home Health Department until her retirement.

In 1947, Betty married Donald (Soup) Link. Most of their married life was spent in rural La Harpe until moving to town in 1982.

They had five children, Dennis, Dale, Eva, Darrell and Ella. Betty and Donald were married 51 years before his death.

She has five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She enjoys reading as well as spending time with her friends and family. She especially enjoyed a three month stay in Texas last winter with her niece but was glad to get back home.
