Meet your neighbor Betty Hensley. She was born in La Harpe December 16, 1922, to George and Bernice Gillett, one of nine children. She and two sisters, Mary and Barbara are the only ones living from the large family. Her school years were spent in the La Harpe School system. After graduation, she attended Brown Business College in Peoria. Betty then joined the Marines, spending two years in the service. Upon her return, she worked at Macomb Porcelain Co. and also worked for Clifford Warner in the lawyer's office in La Harpe. In later years, she spent 20 years working in the La Harpe Post Office. Betty married Robert Hensley in 1947. They spent all their married life on a farm south of La Harpe. Four boys were born to them- Robert, Roger (deceased), Richard and Randy. Betty and Robert were married 29 years before his death in 1976. She and Kenneth Link were married in 1984. They enjoyed traveling and took many trips to see family and just to enjoy the sights. Kenneth died in 1999. Betty is a member of the Burnside Christian Church. She has seven grandchildren and enjoys spending time with them. Her hobbies include sewing, quilting, and playing cards with her family. |
