The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.
The first murder in Henderson County occurred in 1859 when deputy David Welsh tried to arrest Enoch Hollings-worth and Jacob Yeider at the mill on Fall Creek.
Joseph Hollingsworth was the owner of the flouring mill and had turned it over to son Addison. Father and son had words and the son was thrown out forcibly.
He sought help from the law in Oquawka and a warrant was issued for the arrest of both E.Hollingsworth and Jacob Yeider.
In trying to carry out the orders, Deputy Welsh was shot and later died the next day.
