Stronghurst Village Meet In New Hall

by Shirley Linder-Quill Editor

The Village of Stronghurst held their first board meeting in the newly renovated Village Hall on Monday evening.

New windows and doors, along with paneling and carpeting provides an attractive and comfortable room for meetings. "Thanks" was expressed to Tony Griepentrog and the village employees for the good job they have done in the refurbishing.

It was reported the curb in front of the high school has been painted yellow and a no parking sign erected in an effort to keep the area safe for students.

Angela Myers reported she had been approached by some citizens interested in a city wide garage sale day. The board agreed to see if there was enough interest to warrant further investigation, possibly having one in June. Anyone interested should call Angela Myers and let her know if you would be interested in this venture.

Eric Chockley asked Angela to check with Waste Management to see if there is a possibility of having recyclables picked up on the first and third Wednesdays of each month. At present the pickup is every other week and citizens are having trouble remembering which week to set the recyclables out.

Lawrence Neff reported there has been some trouble with four wheelers being ridden in town. President Chockley reminded everyone that four wheelers are illegal on the streets.

Juanita Jarvis reported Tony Griepentrog's Bible Study group, Angela Myers, the American Legion and the Jacob family will each plant and maintain a flower bed in the village park this summer.

Bob Carmean reported that a fire hydrant had been replaced on Broadway in front of The Quill and there are two more that needs replaced.

The report from the Sheriff's office for the month of April included: 14 items with arrests made for failure to yield from stop; failure to yield at intersection; two arrests for suspended/revoked drivers.

The board entered closed session at 8:07 for the purpose of employee compensation and reconvened at 8:20 p.m.

On a motion by Bob Scott, seconded by Lawrence Neff the members voted to increase the employees pay. Tony Anderson and Scott Ford will receive a 40¢ an hour raise and Deanna Huss and Lori Russell will receive a $200 a year raise.

The meeting adjourned at 8:27 p.m. Present were: Board members Lawrence Neff, Angela Myers, Tony Griepentrog, Juanita Jarvis, Bob Scott and David Vancil; President Eric Chockley; Clerk Deanna Huss; Treasurer Lori Russell; Employee Bob Carmean; Deputy Steve Haynes and guest Terry Myers.
