Southern Elementary was one of a hundred schools that have been selected for an academic improvement award by the Illinois State Board of Education.
There are 882 school districts in Illinois and 4,271 schools located within those districts.
To qualify for the award schools must have met state standards as required by No Child Left Behind and increased their test scores during each of the past three years.
"Southern School District is very pleased to be selected for this award," said Principal Dale Buss."
Buss said the school will be recognized at a ceremony in Springfield on May 19th.
"All of the staff has worked hard to improve the curriculum that we offer to our students, and it is a very positive experience for the State to recognize our staff for the improvements that we have made."
