Laura De Haven is this weeks Meet Your Neighbor. She was born in Wisconsin to Claus and Anna Hagberg, whose family originated from Sweden. Laura's school years were spent in Wisconsin. She is the only girl in a family of six children. At age 17 she moved to Moline with her mother and worked for three years in a restaurant owned by her mother. She then purchased her own restaurant, which she managed for 45 years. She has many stories of happenings in the place of business. She was first married to James Bell, who died at an early age of 47 in 1957. After a time, she met Eldred (Sport) De Haven and they were married in 1968. They retired and moved to La Harpe in 1978. He died in 1980. Laura loved to travel when she was able and has made the trip to Sweden twice to visit relatives. She enjoys reading, card playing, visiting with her friends and attending activities at the Senior Center. She is a member of La Harpe Christian Church, which she dearly loves. |
