La Harpe 8th Grade, Sectional Champs And On To State

SECTIONAL CHAMPS

The 8th Grade Sectional Volleyball Championship between the Abingdon Lady Commandoes and the La Harpe Lady Eagles was decided at La Harpe Monday evening as the La Harpe Eagles outplayed their guests and won the Sectional plaque along with a trip to the state tournament.

In game #1, La Harpe won the coin toss and the first serve.

Haeli Johnson served two points before the Lady Eagles were unable to return the volley. The next two servers for both teams were unable to score.

The Lady Commandoes scored one service point, but their next serve went out of bounds.

Morgan Mohr served next, but on the return volley Lindsey Pollock's kill went into the net.

Abingdon scored another point and tied the game at two. A side out by the Lady Commandoes brought Shelby Bartlett to the service line. She added six points; two aces and one was on Alyssa Swanson's kill.

A lift by La Harpe gave the ball back to Abingdon.

Swanson's tip went out of bounds and the Commandoes scored another point.

Lindsey's tip on the next serve gave the serve to Pollock. Her first serve was an ace followed by a block by Jennifer and a non return by Abingdon. La Harpe led 11-3.

Following a Abingdon time out, Lindsey's next serve went into the net. Swanson's tip ended the Lady Commandoes next scoring drive.

Haeli Johnson served four points assisted by Morgan and Swanson's kills to win game one, 15-3.

Game #2 opened with Abingdon scoring first on La Harpe's missed block. The next serve and volley ended with a side out to the Lady Eagles.

Ashley Sparrow added two points before a net serve gave the ball back to the opponents. A block out of bounds on the return volley returned the ball back to La Harpe.

Jennifer Siegworth added three points including two aces. Her next serve went out of bounds.

The Lady Commandoes scored a point when Morgan's kill went out.

Haeli Johnson's kill ended the scoring. The next two servers did not score. Johnson stepped to the line and served up six more points making the score, 11-2.

A net violation turned the ball over to Abingdon but they were not able to capitalize.

Lindsey Pollock added three more points then an out of bounds serve gave the opponents a side out.

Abingdon's net serve gave Shelby Bartlett the serve. She closed the contest, serving the winning point as the Lady Commandoes were unable to return the serve.

With the 15-2 victory, the Lady Eagles claimed the Sectional title and a return trip to state.

The Lady Eagles are scheduled to play in Hartsburg on Saturday, March 20th at 4:15 p.m.
