Stronghurst Village Board Meeting
By: Shirley Linder, Quill Editor
Phyliss Tilton of Stronghurst was present at Monday night's board meeting to discuss who is responsible for clearing sidewalks in the business district. She stated she knew of two people who had fallen on ice within a short period of time.
Board President Eric Chockley said each business owner is responsible for their walks. He stated business owners needed to be reminded they, not the village, are liable for all snow and ice removal and for any injuries from falls that occur on the sidewalk.
The board voted to purchase carpeting from Becky Bechtel for the meeting room. They will also get estimates for tables and chairs for the room. With spring just around the corner, flowers for the park were discussed. President Chockley said he would like to see some method of watering system so the fire trucks will not need to be used. The village employees will check into some options and bring ideas back to the board.
The idea of having church groups, organizations or families adopt a flower bed in the park met with the board's approval. Juanita Jarvis was named to be in charge of implementing this plan and will put an item in the local paper with details.
Tony Anderson was directed to get bids for a tractor with a back mowing deck and tiller.
The board voted to sign a 5 year contract with Central Tank Coating for water tower maintenance and painting. The cost will be $1200 per year for maintenance and $12,150 for painting on the 5th year.
The village burn area will be open only at the posted times and locked at all other times, due to misuse.
