Ear biter leaves victim in stitches

GULFPORT - An Aledo man who noshed on a nightclub employee's ear last month has received a pretrial date of March 10.

Travis "The Bos" Boswell, 24, faces three class 3 felony charges as a result of the altercation that sent Cory Brewer, 29, manager at Boss Hogg's bar in Gulfport to the Great River Medical Center for stitches at 4 a.m. on Jan 19.

The three charges include aggravated battery with intent to do great bodily harm, aggravated battery in a public area and criminal damage to property.

"The first count was for Boswell causing permanent disfigurement to Burr when he bit off a quarter of his ear," Henderson County States Attorney Raymond Cavanaugh said. "This was a case of Mike Tyson at his worst moment."

Burr was asleep in the club when he was notified that Boswell had kicked a dent in a door on Burr's 1998 Chevy Blazer.

A fight ensued in the business's parking lot, with Boswell leaving his mark on one of Burr's ear.

Burr was taken to GRMC, where the detached ear portion was stitched back on.

Burr will, in the end, still appear with one ear shorter than the other.

"It's still going to fall off," Cavanaugh said. "It's just a matter of time, but they told him it will eventually die and come off."

Boswell was arrested later in the week at his home in Aledo on a $10,000 warrant. He later posted $1,000 bond, saying he intended to hire a lawyer before his Henderson County court date next month.

If convicted, Boswell faces a sentence of between two and five years in prison on each count and a fine of up to $25,000. Any sentences would run concurrently.
