Boys Speak At Legion Meeting

Like Father, Like Son

Chase Heap, Ben Jacob and Andrew Linder, had the privilege of attending the 69th Annual Boys State this year.

It was interesting that each of their fathers, Bryan Heap, Delmar Jacob and Marvin Linder had the same privilege when they were high school students.

Apparently this was an exception, instead of the rule, that all three of the boys fathers had gone previously and enjoyed the experience.

At a potluck supper, held at the Stronghurst Legion Hall on Monday evening, the three teenage boys told of their week spent at Boy's State.

They told of getting up at 6:15 a.m., marching, attending seminars, how long the lines were in the cafeteria and the sports they participated in.

The boys, over 600 in all, learned procedures for running for village, county and state offices.

There were two parties the Federalist and Nationalist. They also learned how laws are made.

The boys thanked the Bank of Stronghurst, Raritan State Bank and The American Legion for sponsoring them.

Each boy said they would recommend going. They met a lot of new people and learned a lot.

Danielle Waterman was elected to attend Girls State, but unfortunately became ill at the last minute and was unable to go.

Danielle graciously thanked the Legion Auxiliary for giving her the opportunity and apologized for not being able to go. She said she had really been looking forward to it.

Legion members were pleased with the boys reports and enthusiasm.

The boys expressed much interest in attending a local board meeting to see if the protocol they have learned is being followed at home.
