The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.
Last evening June 7th the Henderson County Cancer survivors gathered at the Stronghurst United Methodist church for a Dessert Event. They were entertained by Rob Hull
of Sciota who did an excellent job. He inspired each to do better each day, to show encouragement to others and trust in God.
The theme of the 2004 Relay for Life is "Angels Among Us." The angel theme was carried out throughout the evening.
Angela Rankin was introduced as the "poster angel" for this year. She was diagnosed at age 3 with a brain tumor and is now clear of signs of cancer.
She and her parents went through a lot since that time.
"Angela's big sister (Kristen) should have been introduced as well," said survivor chair, Theresa Fox.
"It is true that Angie was the sick one, but Kristen had her whole life turned upside down as well. Mother Nancy had to be at the hospital with Angie.
"Mike, her daddy, had to be at work, therefore Kristen was shuffled around with friends and family and school. She eventually moved in with her grandparents and had to change school so that she could have a more routine environment.
"Kristen was truly an angel to get through all this while Angie was being treated. Way to go, Kristen!" said Theresa.
Some details of teams fundraising was discussed. The Relay For Life is July 23-24 at Union's track and football field.
