Meet Your Neighbor

Meet Your Neighbor Richard Sheffler. Richard was born in Kahoka, Missouri, and is the son of the late Raymond and Dolly Sheffler.

The family moved to Illinois in 1936, first to Bowen, then to rural La Harpe.

His grade school years were spent in Fountain Green, coming into La Harpe for high school where he graduated in 1955.

His work years have been spent in the grocery business working 42 years for Harold (Biz) Miller, Wendell Fisher, and Delbert Kreps.

Richard and Alice (Akers) were married in 1956.

They lived in Stronghurst for a few years before moving to La Harpe, where they have been in the same house since 1968.

They have five children, Sheryl, Alan, Darlene, Jeff and Lisa. They also have 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. One grandchild is deceased.

He is an avid football fan and has also spent many many years coaching Little League, both boys and girls.

He is affectionately called "Pop" by many of the kids as well as others. In his spare time, he enjoys gardening and golfing.
