The Village of Stronghurst board voted to raise the water fee for the initial hookup and all reconnect fees from $10 to $50. They also discussed the fact that delinquent water bills are going on too long and agreed that a 30 day notice will be sent, then the water will be shut off.
Tony Griepentrog reported the clock has been installed in the village park and the water hydrant for watering flowers should be in by Thursday. It was also reported that vandals are running over fences and destroying flowers.
President Eric Chockley said the Booster Club would appreciate the village employees help in erecting the new "Welcome to Stronghurst" signs. It was agreed that when the Booster Club gets the location and permits needed, the employees will help with the placement.
David Vancil reported the railroad crossing on Broadway is in need of repair. President Chockley said he will contact Village Attorney Mike Neff, to write a letter requesting repair.
Bob Carmean requested payment for a repair part he had charged on his personal credit card in the amount of $207 plus shipping. The board approved payment.
Bob Scott will work with Bob Carmean to establish which streets will be oiled this year and then bids will be let. The bids are to be brought to the August meeting. 1/3 of the village streets are oiled each year.
Tony Griepentrog made a motion that the water rate metered from a fire hydrant (which must be done with permission of the water department) be equal to village rates. Bob Scott seconded and the motion passed.
President Chockley reported he had several calls complaining of cats getting into garbage cans, digging, etc. The state considers a cat as wildlife and the only solution would be a leash law, which would be very nearly impossible to enforce.
The report from the sheriff's department included 26 cases: Arrest cases included-operating uninsured motor vehicle;
3 cases of unlawful possession of hypodermic needles; criminal trespass to land; unlawful chemical breakdown illegal substance; possession of drug equipment; possessing a controlled substance;
3 criminal trespass. Pending investigation cases included-2 cases of theft $300 and under; 2 cases of burglary; harassment by telephone; 4 cases of criminal damage to property and theft over $300. Information only cases included-2 cases of criminal damage to property; other trouble and driver and passenger safety.
One case of domestic violence was referred to responsible.
Present were: Board members Lawrence Neff, Angela Myers, David Vancil, Bob Scott, Tony Griepentrog, President Eric Chockley, Clerk Deanna Huss, Treasurer Lori Russell; City Employee Bob Carmean; Deputy Steve Henshaw. Board member Juanita Jarvis was absent.
The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 2, at the village hall.
