Vandalism Thought to be Total Loss

Vandals destroyed a vacant farm house, damaged a machine shed and three tractors Wednesday night, July 7th, at the John and Greg Siegworth farm located 1 mile south of La Harpe.

One tractor was driven right into the living room of the house, another was driven into the machine shed and a third into the combine in the shed. The cab on the large 4 wheel drive tractor was shattered and the wheels flattened. It is thought to be a total loss. Damage has been estimated at between $90,000.00 and $100,000.00.

According to Hancock County Sheriff John Jefferson, Justin S. Yelton, age 17, of Fountain Green, and a 16 year old juvenile from La Harpe have been arrested. Yelton is in jail and is being held on a $25,000.00 bond. The 16 year old has been sent to a juvenile detention center for a later hearing.

Farmers in the area helped the Siegworth family on Thursday replacing damaged beams in the machine shed and helping with clean-up. The farm has been in the Siegworth family for 60 years.

The Siegworths said they appreciated the Hancock County Sheriffs Department and La Harpe Police Department for their assistance and many who helped them with clean-up.
