Warbird Fly-In

The 13th annual Warbird Fly-In will be held at the Lloyd Douglas airport Thursday, July 22, 2004. You are invited to come see these old time planes used in World War II, Korea and Vietnam wars.

A lot of them are L-17's and L-19's. Also expecting several Navion plans flown during the wars. Lloyd is a member of this organization and they expressed a desire to show off their aircraft.

Lloyd may not be there to greet you as he had heart surgery July 6 followed by a stroke. However, he wants you to come and enjoy seeing all of the old Warbirds.

Directions to Douglas airport: West from La Harpe on Highway 9 to Durham corner; Left (south one mile; right (West) one mile). Bring your cameras and lawn chairs, as it is a spectacular sight seeing them come in formation to land and when they leave, just before dark. They are proud to show off their aircraft-however do not touch.

A lot of work has gone into them to get them into vintage shape. Planes will be coming to Douglas International between 3:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Thursday for a hog roast for the pilots only. Sorry we can not invite everyone for the meal.

These planes are at Keokuk, Iowa, Friday and Saturday, July 23 and 24 and will leave on Sunday, July 25 for Oshkosh, Wisconsin. if you like, you can see them at Keokuk during the week doing formation flying, bomb drops and spot landings. Lindners Field is located north of Keokuk off U.S. 218 and 61. There will be a breakfast for the public at Keokuk Airport on Saturday morning starting at 8 o'clock.

Pictured is an Army DeHavelin Beaver Aircraft which is a big attraction for everyone. The owner, Ed Schmidts of Vichy, Missouri, is a Vietnam War veteran and he enjoys showing his aircraft to the public and sometimes lets the children sit in the cockpit. The unusual thing about this plane is it can land on either land or water.

A photographer will be taking pictures which you can purchase later. Also when the pilots are all landed and are eating, it would be a good time to walk the runway to view planes closer and take pictures.

For the handicapped, you have permission to drive your car to the parked planes, but please space your vehicles a little way apart so it will be safe for those walking. Safety first! Everyone is welcome!

In case of bad weather or if the grass strip is soft from rain, come see us at Keokuk.
